Citizens Advice (CAB) provide free and confidential advice to people about their rights and responsibilities.
CAB started in 1939 as an emergency war service and there are over 500 Citizens Advice centres in the UK nowadays. All CABs are registered charities.
Citizens Advice are funded by local authorities, the Legal Services Commission, lottery funding, primary care trusts, charitable trusts, private companies and individuals. They give advice face-to-face, via thousands of centres and outreach locations. They also offer advice over the phone on 0808 223 1133 or by email.
CABs provide debt advice, as well as advice on employment, housing, benefits, tax credits and immigration issues.
The Citizens Advice website offers advice to residents of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Citizens Advice Northern Ireland and Citizens Advice Scotland are separate organisations and have their own websites.
