How an IVA affects me

IVA register. Who knows about my individual voluntary arrangement?

If you enter into an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA), the details will be recorded on the Insolvency Register. The Insolvency Register contains information about all current individual voluntary arrangements.

It also holds information about current bankruptcies and debt relief orders, including any that have been discharged within the last three months.

The details about your IVA will stay on the register for three months after the IVA has been completed or terminated.

IVAs are arranged by StepChange Voluntary Arrangements, part of StepChange Debt Charity. In Scotland, a protected trust deed is a similar solution. This has different benefits, risks and fees.

What is the Individual Insolvency Register?

The Individual Insolvency Register is available to search online for free. Although anyone can access the register, it’s unlikely that anyone except your creditors will search it.

What information will appear on the register?

If you enter into an IVA, the following personal information will appear on the Individual Insolvency Register:

  • Your name
  • Your last known address
  • Your date of birth
  • Your gender
  • The date the IVA was approved

Clare Lindley and James O'Carroll of StepChange Voluntary Arrangements are licensed to act as insolvency practitioners in the UK by the Insolvency Practitioners Association.
