Become a media volunteer

One of the best ways to raise awareness about problem debt is to show how people are affected. By sharing your experience of being in debt, you can help encourage more people to contact us for help.

Why volunteer?

Your personal experience can help others understand what it’s like to deal with debt, and why getting our help is important. By listening to real life stories, you can help people to realise they’re not alone, and that help is available.

Media volunteers are vital to our work. We regularly get requests from journalists looking to speak to people who know what it’s like to live with debt, or ask for testimonials from our clients.

What does a media volunteer do?

Media volunteers are interviewed by us or by journalists about their experiences, for

  • Magazines and newspapers
  • Radio
  • TV and news broadcasts
  • Case study videos used on our website and social media

If you’d rather not talk directly to the media, you can share your story with us in an interview we can film. We’ll give you the opportunity to tell your story and film at a pace that suits you, on a day that’s convenient for you.

We’ll give you the option to choose where you’d be willing to share your story.

When might I be asked to help?

Sometimes we might need you to share your story as part of a planned campaign, and we’ll be able to tell you in advance. At other times we’ll be reacting to requests from journalists, which can mean contacting you at short notice.

You stay in control

We're committed to protecting the privacy and security of your information and we'll never send your details to a journalist or contact you without your permission.

If you decide to become a media volunteer we'll contact you first, to make you’re happy with any media request.

In most cases you will be identified for most TV and radio interviews, but sometimes there's an option to remain anonymous.

You can read our privacy notice for more information on how we protect your information.
