This latest report provides insight into the demographic and debt information of new clients who first received debt advice in October 2023. It also includes the latest insights on our website traffic trends.
Our key findings from October 2023:
- In October 2023, the number of clients accessing full debt advice was 15,678, which is four percentage points higher than October 2022 (15,032)
- The number of users accessing the StepChange website increased by four percentage points between September (325,581) and October 2023 (338,597), however, volumes are slightly lower than a year ago (October 2022 = 342,080)
- In October 2023, the proportion of clients in arrears with their dual fuel bills has fallen for the sixth consecutive month to 46%, among those with a responsibility for paying this bill type
- The proportion of clients citing a ‘cost of living increase’ as their main reason for debt is unchanged month-on-month at 24% in October 2023
- The proportion of clients in part-time employment is 16% in October 2023, which is two percentage points higher than the same time last year (October 2022 = 14%)
- In October 2023, a third of clients had a negative budget (34%), which is one percentage point higher than September 2023 (33%)
