Debt in Mind. It’s time to take control of your debt and stress.

Are you suffering from debt-related stress? You may not be too sure. How do you feel when you think about your money problems? Concerned? Frustrated? Overwhelmed? It doesn't have to be this way. You can take practical steps to face your debt and stress at the same time.

Debt can leave you feeling a shadow of your former self. You can feel its presence when you see the stack of bills waiting to be dealt with. You can hear it in your voice when you talk to your kids or argue with your partner. Maybe you feel it as knots in your stomach and tension in your head. And perhaps you've lain awake at night, turning thoughts over in your head, unable to sleep properly.

If this sounds like you, then you may be one of thousands of people who suffer with debt-related stress*. We and our friends at Mental Health Foundation know that it doesn’t have to be this way.

Taking on debt and stress one step at a time

7 Days, 7 Ways is our easy-to-use email programme that helps you take control of your finances, step by step. Written by our expert debt advisors, it's the perfect starting point in helping you to deal with debt.

Each day for a week, we will send through an email linking to practical advice that will help you figure out what you owe, which payments are priorities, and help you put together a long-term action plan.

Be Mindful from MHF is where you can find information on how you can tackle unmanaged stress, be it because of debt or any other problem you may be facing in life. It’s also where you can learn about ‘mindfulness’, helping you stay focused on what’s happening right now instead of worrying about the past or future. It’s a simple method that may help you manage stressful everyday situations and stay mentally healthy.

You can help those around you deal with debt stress

If you work in a customer-facing role such as in:

  • A housing association
  • A local authority
  • An advice organisation
  • A local community centre

Or anywhere where a person would feel safe to come and talk about the problems they're having, we want to hear from you.

Fill in our quick online form and we can send you posters, leaflets and other information that you can display in your workplace for people who may need our help to see. It only takes minutes, but you could change the course of someone's life by making them aware of Debt in Mind and help offered by us and our friends at the Mental Health Foundation.

We’re in this together

We know debt, and we know how it makes people feel. MHF know how stress can wear people down. We've updated our 7 Days, 7 Ways programme with mindfulness tips from the Mental Health Foundation to help you deal with your debt while looking after your mental health and wellbeing. Our aim is help as many of you as possible take lasting action on your debt and the stress it can bring.

You can do this, and we’ll be with you every step of the way.
