StepChange Debt Charity offers non-profit debt management plans. All the money you pay goes towards clearing your debts. We are a charitable organisation and we do not charge fees for any of our services.
As a non-profit debt advice charity, we can look at your finances, assess your debt problem and suggest the best possible solution for your situation. In cases where a debt management plan (DMP) is the best course of action, we work out your budget and surplus income and contact your creditors to propose a schedule of reduced payments.
If your creditors accept, which they do in the majority of cases, then you pay us a monthly total, which we then distribute amongst your creditors. You can keep up to date with your DMP online and we send you a monthly statement detailing how much you’ve paid to each of your creditors.
A DMP could affect your credit rating, the overall amount you repay and length of time you take to repay. For more details about the things to consider with a DMP visit our main debt management plan page.
Non-profit debt charity
Although we offer free, non-profit debt management services, there are debt management companies who charge fees to organise DMPs, which are usually added to the monthly total you pay them. Because of this, your debts will take longer to pay off with a fee-charging company than with a non-profit debt charity like us.
