Help your customers get debt advice sooner

Our research suggests that people often wait a long time between realising they have a debt problem, and reaching out for help.

In this time, their situation can often worsen, as interest, fees and charges mount up. Sweeping their debt problems under the carpet and burying their head in the sand might feel like the easiest thing to do, but can be detrimental to your customers’ mental and financial wellbeing.

That’s why, this Autumn, we’re encouraging people to get help sooner.

Recent client polling shows us that:

  • 55% of StepChange clients waited more than a year to get debt advice
  • 92% agreed that if they could go back in time, they’d get advice sooner
  • Clients who waited to get advice reported increased stress and mental health worries
  • Clients told us they’d encourage others in a similar situation to take action quickly
