StepChange your way is flexible free debt advice that allows you to seamlessly switch between our online and telephone advice channels. So how does it work? We'll start by asking you some quick questions to understand how best we can support you. We'll capture the details of your debts and help you to create a realistic, sustainable budget by understanding how much you may be able to afford to repay towards your debts.

During the debt advice process, you can easily switch between channels, take a break and continue once you're ready. And online service is available to all seven so you can use it at a time that suits you.

When the debt advice process is complete, we'll recommend a suitable way forward for you, whether that's a debt solution or an alternative option based on your individual needs.

We'll support you through the solution set up process and provide you with the guidance you need to get your solution set up and ready to go.

Our advice process

You can easily switch between getting debt advice from us online or over the phone. Either way we'll follow a simple, three-step process to deal with your debt:

  1. We’ll help you work out your budget, income and debts
  2. We’ll use this information to find a solution to your debt that suits your situation
  3. We’ll set up your debt solution, and offer support however long it's needed

How we're funded

We're only able to do what we do because we're funded almost entirely by voluntary donations from creditors, which include banks, the government and loan companies. With their financial support, our highly trained advisors provide free and impartial debt advice to thousands of people every week.

Whether it’s campaigning to prevent problem debt, offering advice, managing repayment plans or supporting people through a process leading to debt relief, it’s only possible thanks to the donations that we receive.

What we promise our clients

We’ll tell you about all the debt solutions which are available to you. We’ll support you with any of these debt solutions where they have a reasonable chance of resolving your debt problem. Where you can afford to repay your debt within 10 years, we’ll recommend a repayment solution. If not, we’ll recommend an insolvency option. You can choose the solution that best meets your needs.
