StepChange Debt Charity and Macmillan. Working together.

When you're affected by cancer it can be tough on your finances. By providing free debt advice, we hope that you'll be in a better position to get back to the things that matter most in your life.

At some point in their life, many people will have to deal with cancer. Either they’re diagnosed with it themselves, or a friend, family member or colleague will suffer from this devastating disease.

Cancer can take over your life. It can dominate your thoughts, your decisions and your plans for the future. Living with cancer can also be tough on finances. You might not be able to earn in the same way. You’ll probably spend more on everyday costs like heating and getting around. Trying to deal with debt while also facing something like cancer can quickly become overwhelming.

We know from talking to clients that cancer doesn't just affect those who are diagnosed. Many people reduce work hours or leave employment entirely to support a loved one through treatment.

Macmillan found that over four in five (83%) people are financially worse off as a result of a cancer diagnosis. The average impact of those affected was £570 a month.

Debt isn't the only problem

Macmillan’s ‘Money & Cancer’ campaign aims to help people with cancer deal with their money worries. From help with claiming benefits, to managing housing costs and helping people through insurance claims processes, Macmillan can give the support and guidance you need.

Our work with Macmillan supports those with cancer when they most need it. If you need free and confidential debt advice we can help. Our ‘how we can help you’ page tells you all about our support and the different debt solutions we offer.
