Mass testing and vaccinations were in full swing, and masks and social distancing were a common sight at polling stations. Few would have imagined then that the years to follow would be just as turbulent. But since 2021, households have been hit by a sustained cost of living crisis, soaring inflation and record energy prices, all unfolding against a backdrop of global instability and conflict.

  • Adam Butler, Public Policy Manager, spoke to the i news about buy now, pay later discounts and assorted risks for consumers.
  • BBC Money Box and BBC Breakfast covered the Enforcement Conduct Board's first insight report which found the enforcement industry handles 8 million individual cases and collects over £1 billion worth of debt a year. As part of the story, a cross-party letter from Members of Parliament to the Prime Minister, which our public affairs team orchestrated, featured.
  • We worked with BBC Radio 4’s Money Box for a Saturday feature on credit card debt after our YouGov polling revealed 1 in 20 adults in the UK are in persistent credit card debt. This included an interview with our client, Jaspal, alongside a live interview with Peter Tutton.
  • Head of Communication Simon Trevethick was interviewed on Times Radio about the new Buy Now, Pay Later regulation
  • Vikki Brownridge's latest opinion piece featured in the Big Issue and focused on credit card debt. It drew on our YouGov polling, which found that 5% of all adults - 2.5 million people - are trapped in persistent credit card debt
  • Peter Tutton gave a live interview to BBC Radio Nottingham regarding a BBC Radio investigation on NHS trusts using bailiffs to recover salary overpayments.
  • Vikki's latest article featured in the Yorkshire Post which focused on the rise in demand for debt advice and a behind the scenes look at how StepChange operates
  • Genevieve Richardson, Senior Public Policy Advocate, spoke to the Scottish political magazine Holyrood about coerced debt and our work trying to influence creditors, Government and credit agencies to amend existing rules. The report featured two StepChange case studies.
