This latest report provides insight into the demographic and debt information of new clients who first received debt advice in April 2026. It also includes the latest insights on our website traffic trends

Our key findings from April 2026:

  • The number of clients completing debt advice in April 2026 is 15,144. This is 7% lower than March 2026 (16,349), and 21% higher than April 2025 (12,567).
  • • In April 2026, one in six clients named ‘lack of control over finances’ as their main reason for debt (17%). For the first time since July 2025, this aligns with the proportion naming ‘cost of living increase’ as their main reason for debt (also 17%).
  • The most common unsecured debt type in April 2026 was credit card debt, held by over seven in ten clients (71%). This is unchanged from March 2026 (71%), but five percentage points higher than April 2025 where it was held by two in three clients (66%).
  • Over one in two clients in April 2026 held personal loan debt (53%). This is one percentage point higher than in March 2026 (52%), and six percentage points higher than a year prior in April 2025 (47%).
  • The proportion of clients who identify as women has fallen for the third consecutive month. In April 2026, just under six in ten clients were women (58%), which is three percentage points lower versus the start of the year (January 2026 = 61%).
  • The number of clients in full time employment rose to 45% in April 2026, which is one percentage point higher than March 2026 (44%) and four percentage points higher than April 2025 (41%).
