This latest report provides insight into the demographic and debt information of new clients who first received debt advice in February 2026. It also includes the latest insights on our website traffic trends.

Our key findings from February 2026:

  • The number of clients completing full debt advice in February 2026 is 15,262. This is 15% lower than January 2026 (17,998), but 5% higher than February 2025 (14,508).
  • The number of clients naming a ‘unemployment or redundancy’ as their main reason for debt has increased by one percentage point between January (15%) and February 2026 and now stands at one in six (16%).
  • In February 2026, four in ten (41%) clients were in receipt of Universal Credit. This is two percentage points higher than January 2026 (39%).
  • The proportion of clients with council tax arrears, among those with a responsibility for paying this bill, has increased by two percentage points from 33% in January to 35% in February 2026.
  • The number of clients in mortgage arrears, among those with a responsibility for paying a mortgage has risen. In January 2026, over one in eight (13%) clients had mortgage arrears, whereas over one in seven (15%) clients had mortgage arrears in February 2026.
  • The proportion of clients in full-time employment has fallen by two percentage points between January and February 2026, from 46% to 44%, respectively.
