Since 2014, we’ve run an annual campaign called Debt Awareness Week to shine a light on debt‑related issues and encourage people to seek the support they deserve.
Debt can affect anyone. Yet for many, the shame surrounding it stops them from reaching out - so we’re tackling that stigma head‑on.
What we did in Debt Awareness Week 2026
Debt doesn’t define you was the theme of our 2026 campaign, focused on bringing conversations about debt into the open. Here’s how the week unfolded:
Starting conversations online
We hosted a Reddit Ask Me Anything, giving people a safe space to ask questions, share experiences, and seek guidance. Throughout the week we shared daily social content designed to spark honest conversations about money worries and normalise talking about debt.
Raising awareness in the media and engaging policymakers
We shared our latest research with national media outlets and held a parliamentary drop‑in session, speaking directly with MPs and policymakers about the realities of debt stigma and the barriers people face when accessing advice.
Working with partners
Across the week, we ran in‑person events with partners from sectors including banking, government, and the charity sector. We also delivered a webinar exploring insights from our latest Statistics Yearbook, helping professionals better understand UK debt trends and the challenges people are facing.
Looking ahead: Debt Awareness Week 2027
Next year, we’ll build on the momentum of our 2026 campaign and continue driving meaningful change by:
- Encouraging open, judgment‑free conversations that break down stigma
- Sharing practical tools and guidance for anyone facing money worries
- Working with partners, policymakers, and the public to create a more supportive environment for people in debt
Mark your calendars for 15–21 March 2027 and join us in making it easier for people to talk about debt, seek support, and feel less alone.
