Common questions we are asked about DMP statements

Sometimes a portion of the payment you send us will be held on your account if we are not able to send it to one of your debts.

We might hold payments for a couple of reasons:

  • The account number of the debt is wrong
  • The creditor you have the debt with has told us that they are no longer dealing with your account. This usually means they have passed your debt to another creditor

We will send you an email or letter about this to ask for more information. Once you have given this to us we can send your payment to the right creditor.

When we are told that a debt has been passed to another company, we make the changes to your account to make sure the money is going to the right place. We will also send the new creditor a copy of your payment proposal.

You can view your DMP statement online at the end of each month. We will let you know when it is available.

Statements sent to you by post should also be with you by the end of each month.

The amounts you owe (also known as your 'balances') on your statement from us are estimated. They are based on the balance you told us at the start of your DMP, and any updates provided by you or your creditors since then.

You should keep in touch with the people you owe and get up to date balances regularly. This helps you to stay in control of your plan and helps us make sure that we are giving you the right advice. You can easily update your balances with OnlineDMP.

The payments to date column will only show what you have paid to your 'active' creditors.

When a debt is passed to another company, the old creditor becomes 'inactive' on our records as payments made to that creditor stop. Your statement only shows active creditors, and the payments made to them.

OnlineDMP shows your last six months statements. We can give you older payment history if you need it. The easiest way to request information is to email client.service@stepchange.org. Remember to include your StepChange reference number in your email.
