This latest report provides insight into the demographic and debt information of new clients who first received debt advice in August 2026. It also includes the latest insights on our website traffic trends
- The number of clients completing full debt advice in August 2026 was 14,576. This is 7% lower than July 2026 (15,715), but 14% higher than August 2025 (12,768).
- The proportion of clients selecting ‘need credit to cover living costs’ as a main reason for debt continues to steadily grow. In August 2026, this reason was selected by one in ten (11%) clients, which is three percentage points higher than August 2025 (8%).
- Both credit card and personal loan debt increased by six percentage points year-on-year. Three in four (75%) clients held credit card debt in August 2026 versus 69% in August 2025. 56% held personal loan debt in August 2026, compared to 50% a year prior.
- Fewer clients report being in arrears on their mortgage in August 2026 (12%) versus July 2026 (15%).
- The number of clients who identified as men was 41% in August 2026. This has risen two percentage points compared to August 2025 (39%).
- Almost half (48%) of clients report being in full-time employment in August 2026. This is one percentage point higher than July 2026 (47%) and two percentage points higher than August 2025 (46%).
