APPG nuisance calls report shows “pressing need for action”
30 October, 2013
In response to today’s All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Nuisance Calls report, StepChange Debt Charity head of policy Peter Tutton said:
“We welcome the APPG’s report, it is yet further evidence of the pressing need for action to protect consumers from nuisance calls and texts. These types of calls and texts are much more than just an everyday annoyance, for vulnerable consumers they can lead to substantial harm – our research shows that 3.2 million British adults say they have been left afraid to answer the phone as a result of unsolicited marketing calls and texts.
“What is needed is a comprehensive package of measures that strengthens the power of regulators, gives consumers control back over their personal data, protects financially vulnerable consumers, and strengthens existing consumer protections.”
