StepChange Debt Charity response to ICO announcement
8 August, 2013
In response to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) announcement of a new Subject Access Code of Practice, StepChange Debt Charity’s head of policy Peter Tutton said:
“Today’s announcement is a welcome acknowledgement that companies need to be more open and forthcoming with the personal information held about individuals.
“It is concerning that over one in six of the complaints made to the ICO related to money lenders. We are concerned that financially vulnerable consumers are being targeted by unscrupulous firms who misuse personal data in order to sell products and services, such as payday loans, that often worsen people’s situation.”
