StepChange Debt Charity supports ICO call for nuisance call law changes
10 September, 2013
In response to the Information Commissioner’s Office’s (ICO) call for changes to the law to help clampdown on nuisance calls, StepChange Debt Charity head of policy Peter Tutton said:
“Nuisance calls are more than just a mere inconvenience, they can cause severe stress and anxiety, as well as serious financial harm to indebted consumers. Nuisance calls are often used by unscrupulous firms as a means to target financially vulnerable consumers with products such as payday loans or debt management services which could potentially worsen their financial situation.
“Reducing the barriers that prevent the ICO from taking action to address the harm caused by nuisance calls would be welcome and we hope that MPs will support the proposed measures”.
