Thousands go online to deal with their debt problems at the weekend

Thousands of people have chosen to deal with their debt problems at the weekend according to StepChange Debt Charity. Over 17,000 (17,164) people have used the charity’s free online debt advice tool Debt Remedy on a Saturday or Sunday since the start of the year. Hundreds use it to deal with their debt problems each Saturday and Sunday without exception, with even several hundred people using it on Easter Sunday this year.
The charity says that many people are likely to be using the free advice tool at the weekend because they haven’t had the time during the week to seek debt advice. It says that couples might want to seek advice while they are together at the weekend too.
The charity says that a call from a debt collector at the weekend may also prompt people to seek advice.
Commenting on the findings, Delroy Corinaldi, external affairs director at StepChange Debt Charity, said: “Weekends are supposed to be a time to relax but that isn’t so easy when you are struggling with a debt problem.
“It is good that so many are taking action and seeking help at this time, which is the first step to getting themselves out from under the weight of unmanageable debt.”
StepChange Debt Charity’s free advice tool Debt Remedy is available from their website homepage, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
