Our key findings from December 2024:
- In December 2024, the emergency funding webpage remains as the most viewed debt information page with 28,666 views, which is 35% higher than December 2023 (21,292 views)
- Since June 2022, a ‘cost of living increase’ was the most mentioned main reason for debt, however, in December 2024 this has been overtaken by a ‘lack of control over finances’, which was cited by 18% of clients as their main reason for debt
- Between December 2023 and December 2024, the proportion of clients in electric arrears (24% vs. 28%) and gas (19% vs. 21%) arrears is up by four and two percentage points, respectively, among those with a responsibility for paying the given bill
- Two in five (39%) clients were in receipt of Universal Credit in December 2024, which is two percentage points higher than December 2023 (37%)
- The proportion of men seeking debt advice in December 2024 is 40%, which is two percentage points higher than a year ago (December 2023 = 38%)
